after i finally managed to finish reading the book 'the troubled man' by henning mankell i can just highly recommend it, even though it is not a typical wallander story and not as violent as other books by mankell.

i went to london with ellen... once again :) we went to carnaby street where i bought shoes, then we went to regent and oxford street to buy some clothes for hopefully soon arriving summer. we then took the tube to marylebone station, where there was supposed to be a good antique market - unfortunately, there was only some street market with lots of foreign women shopping household goods. we ended up in an area where even all the signs were in arabic. it was pretty strange and we left after i took some photographs. we went back to regent street and finally went home, where we had pizza at ellen's :)

saturday is trip-day: whitstable! whitstable is a seaside town in the northeast of kent. to get there, ellen and i had to go to canterbury by train (we didn't really mind, canterbury is just too nice!) and then we took the bus to whitstable, which took us about 20 minutes. in whitstable, we went directly to the sea. we had wonderful weather, it was just a bit windy. we took a stroll along the beach and went to the harbour. then we discovered a little market quite close to the port, where i bought some lunch we ate sitting on the beach. later, we walked up the high street and went into some shops - i ended up buying crochet-hook and some wool. i probably have too much free time :D then we took the bus back to canterbury where we had some coffee, then we went home. a nice day!
chillin' on a boat :D
yes i'm cool.

we're looking at politically correct language at the moment in english. some very funny examples came up:
not bald, but hair disadvantaged
not blind, but visually challenged
not drug addict, but chemically challenged
not housewife, but domestic engineer
not liar, but person creative with the facts
not prisoner, but guest of the correctional system
not ugly, but cosmetically different
personally, i rather risk to offend someone than using the examples listed above... :D

i had quite a good day: in photography, i tried to make some photograms, but unfortunately my enlarger was working very badly and i wasted like half a pile of photographic paper. the good thing about it: nobody noticed. at lunch break, there was a charity football match we went to watch. it was quite amusing :)
in the afternoon, i had stats. my stats teacher is finally back from sick leave. she assured us that the rumours about her being addicted to crystal meth or having kissed a student are not true yet she had a very bad ear infection.
then i got an email confirming my date of return: i'll be back on june the 15th. :)

it's warm - we had 13°C today! unfortunately i had to go back to school. it wasn't that bad, though. in photography, i'm finalising my project, in health and social we have to write a report (boring but achievable)... english was alright, even though mr. h. is somehow stressing me out again already. in maths, we have to hurry up in order to finish everything before the big exams in may, which basically means: homework! so you know what i'm doing now :)

i watched a really good film yesterday night: l'enfant d'en haut (english title 'sister'; german 'winterdieb'). it is a swiss drama film directed by ursula meier which won various prices and was on the oscar shortlist. it is about a young boy, simon, who lives with his older sister in very poor conditions in a industrial site close to a swiss ski resort. simon steals rich people's skis and accessories and sells them to people living in his block of flats and a chef working in the mountain restaurant to earn at least some money. his sister is unemployed most of the time and the boy is in charge of money and food. the situation is getting worse and worse... but the film has got a comparatively happy end.

IRELAND - Saturday
We were all sad when we had to pack our things together Saturday morning. The coach picked us up for the last time, bringing us to the airport, where we had to wait for quite a long time, as our flight back to London was the last to depart at 16:45. We left with a very good impression of Ireland and many new friends and memories :)

IRELAND - Friday
On friday, we had all day to do more sightseeing. We went to O'Connell street again, then to the disctrict Temple Bar, an area with many bars, restaurants and shops. We had lunch at a cool coffee place and then just walked around for a while. In the evening, the leaders had organised something special for us: an Irish dance lesson with Irish music. It was hilarious!! I unfortunately didn't take photographs as I was busy trying to dance :D

IRELAND - Thursday
On Thursday, we finally got to explore Dublin. In the morning, we went to see the Guinness storehouse. The most enjoyable part, of course, was the beer testing - but it was also very interesting to learn all about the history of Guinness beer and to see the collection of advertising posters.
In the evening, we went bowling. It was great fun!!

Then we had time to explore Dublin on our own. We took a hop on hop off bus to see the main sights (not many in Dublin) and ended up in O'Connell street, one of the main roads in Dublin. In the centre of the street, there's The Spire, a monument and famous landmark of Dublin. It is 123 meters high and quite impressive. After walking around in O'Connell street, we went to see the Trinity College, a famous college with many nice buildings. Then we took a walk towards the port, ending up walking back along the river Liffey.
