as the weather was reasonably good today (just a bit sticky), i went to hastings with ellen for the second time. we first had lunch at the same place as last time and then went to the seafront, where we were enjoying the sun and finally took a little walk along the beach. before we went home again, we took the hastings east railway to get up some hill, from where we had a good view :)

:)

there were lots and lots of tourists in hastings. i don't really understand them. don't get me wrong, hastings is a nice town, and i did enjoy it - it's just that i couldn't spend a week down there. there are just places where the sea is nicer (especially to swim in), and the town you've seen after half a day. i documented two things tourists can do in hastings today, and i think that activities like them just can't make or keep people happy for long...

anyway. that's the view from the hill we went up to:

three typical things you can find in an english supermarket:

1) bread. well, it's not bread. it's toast. they just call it bread, cause they don't have bread as we know it. i'm looking forward to proper bread.

2) jelly. i don't like it.

3) baked beans. i do like them :)

london, london, i love london... i've last been there about a month ago, so it was time to go again. i went to the british museum with ellen. the british museum is a museum dedicated to history and culture from all over the world, plus several exhibitions. they have countless sculptures and paintings from every century. also, the museum has got a quite interesting architecture with the 'great court' in the middle.

after the museum, we went to see the hangover part 3, which was very amusing. a good day!

i've been to DOVER today with ellen and minky. dover lies at the narrowest part of the english channel and therefore the main port is situated in dover, with all the ferries coming from and going to calais, france. the town isn't really special, neither the beach; but there is something that made me fall in love with dover: the white chalk cliffs and the vegetation upon them. there's a path on the cliffs, which we followed. we enjoyed watching the busy port from above, then we continued our walk for about an hour. we could even see the coast of france, the weather was so good! it was just wonderful, but see yourself:

up!

above the port

can you see france? :)

this was four weeks ago:

i went to the pond again today... the cute little beings from above are growing very quickly!

i went to sevenoaks today with ellen, mainly to go to the cinema but also to see the town and knole park, as the weather wasn't too bad today.

we went to see 'the great gatsby' starring leonardo dicaprio. i very much enjoyed the film, go and see it if you can :)

then we went to knole park, which is about a 15 minutes walk from the town centre. knole park is a huge deer park . the deers are not shy at all, we could approach them up to about 3 metres until they walked away:

goodbye calculator for the next three months; i had my final maths exam today. i have a good feeling, it went very well. due to half term holidays, i don't have school next week! i'm very happy about that, because i've got time to go to london again for a bit. actually, it would be nice to go to the seaside, too; but the weather is just too bad. my host dad said today that it's normally like this in january... but i'm glad anyway to have a week off. i wish you all a wonderful weekend!

looking through the english version of the gossip magazine grazia, i stumbled over this 'rosti' (close enough...) recipe:

i am very much looking forward to eating it again soon!
awesome -.- rest in peace, pencil case.

i did not have photography today, as basically my course is finished and my teacher is on paternity leave anyway, so i spent my time at some coffee place, drinking cappuccino and latte macchiato and taking photographs.

i'm very much in the mood to complain about this weather. we're tending towards the end of may, and the temperature doesn't seem to go any higher than 12°c this week. the sun doesn't  even bother appearing for at least 5 minutes. i'm annoyed; i want summer. hopefully the weather gets better next week - i've got half term holidays!

i just edited one of my pictures...

saturday is trip day: southend! mr. h. took us internationals on our last trip. we first stopped at old leigh (a very small seaside town at the thames gateway), where we took a stroll around. there was a little incident with a bird and ellen's and my jacket, see below... i wasn't happy! then mr. h. bought some seafood we were 'forced' to try; it was just salty. then we headed off to southend-on-sea. from all the seaside resorts i've seen so far, it was the one i liked the least; i actually don't even know why, maybe the weather had an influence. it was cloudy all day long. the main attraction in southend is the pier, which is the longest in europe with 2.16 kilometres. to get to the front, we took the pier train, that was quite practical. sitting at the front of the pier, we spotted a rescue helicopter! we then went back ashore and walked down the high street. even though i wouldn't go to southend again, we had a good day!
